Julie McCarthy is an accomplished and energetic composer and singer-songwriter devoted to the creation of music. Her musical background ranges from performing and composing a variety of genres in music such as: pop, contemporary, new age, jazz, rock to world music.
McCarthy decided to create her own path to find her own music. She explains that her music is like a “multitude of masks.” Each one is a different side of who she is as a person. From beautiful ballads to intensive and dark tension, she represents all of who she is through music.
In McCarthy’s first year of undergraduate Composition studies at the University of Denver, she was accepted into highSCORE festival located in Pavia, Italy. At this festival she attended masterclasses with acclaimed composers such as: Helmut Lachenmann, Amy Beth Kirsten, Christopher Theofanidis, Dmitri Tymoczko, and Gyula Csapó. She was accepted to the Palomar Film Scoring Workshop in Pauma Valley, CA with faculty composers: Rodger Neil, Garry Schymann, and George S. Clinton to name a few. During the workshop, she also composed music for studio musicians in LA. Her studies also led to study abroad in New Zealand and composed music for a solo pianist that was premiered locally.
McCarthy has a Masters of Music in Scoring for Film, TV, and Videogames from Berklee College of Music (2019) in Valencia Spain studying with composers such as: Lucio Godoy, Alfonz Conde, Sergio Lacima, and Vincente Ortiz Gimeno. During her time at Berklee College of Music she composed music for recording sessions with the Budapest Scoring orchestra, Air Studios London, and Spanish musicians.
After her studies, McCarthy continues her work on several films around the Colorado community such as: Ghosters Phantom Patrol, which is being distributed through Artist View Entertainment and expects to be released this summer. In addition, McCarthy was an Assistant Music Supervisor for the film “Crime Story”, that features award-winning actors Richard Dreyfuss and Mira Sorvino and is now streaming on Hulu. Her most recent film composition is: “Zapper!”, now streaming on Tubi, Amazon Prime, and Plex. She has had previous film compositions shown at various local and international film festivals ranging from the DU Film Showcase, DocuWest International Film Festival, Top Dog Film Festival, Cowpokes International Film Festival, LA Liftoff Film Festival, and Golden Gate Film Festival. Several short films for which McCarthy composed include: “The Dhust”, “Then, Now and After”, and “Roxy” have each won awards at various film festivals.
Julie McCarthy strongly believes that she is always being inspired by any form of art whether that would mean music, film, or even the written word. Julie’s purpose as a composer is to use her love of music to inspire others that includes teaching, creating sound, or composing, for any mixed media.

"You've nailed exactly what I'm looking for. I love the grittiness mixed with those sharp synths and how the song switches up to something very blissful, it blends so seamlessly."
